RMA Band Purpose Statement
The Riverside Military Academy Band consists of more than 110 cadets in grades 7-12. The RMA Band Program offers Military Marching Band, Football Band, three Concert Bands, three Percussion Ensembles, The Grenadiers Drum and Bugle Corps, The Commanders Jazz Band, Clarinet Choir, and other various chamber ensembles.
Class ability levels range from beginner to advanced. The RMA Band’s repertoire contains military ceremonial music, marches, patriotic selections, seasonal selections, popular tunes, and classics from the wind band collection.
In addition to the primary purpose of creating young musicians, being a member of the band provides leadership opportunities, a sense of belonging, and allows a positive outlet for expression. The RMA Band strives to develop young men of character who have a life-long love for the Fine Arts. The band breathes life and emotion into the rigorous structure of the Academy. Our band cadets are taught the fundamentals of music as well as appreciation for different types of music while being instilled with a sense of pride and brotherhood for the band's role in the life of the Corps of Cadets. The Riverside Military Academy Band is more than a class - we are a family.
The RMA Band performs at all home football games, in monthly military parade ceremonies, three concerts annually, and provides music for Homecoming Weekend, Founders' Weekend, academic award ceremonies, and other ceremonies throughout the year.
RMA Band cadets often have the opportunity to perform off-campus in the Gainesville community as an advocate and representative of Riverside. Cadets have performed for the Gainesville Rotary Club, the Gainesville chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Free Chapel Church, C.W. Davis Middle School, The Believers Community Band, and many other local organizations.
The RMA Marching Band, along with the entire Corps of Cadets, participates in the Annual Georgia Veterans' Day Parade in Atlanta, GA. Our Corps has brought home the coveted President's Trophy for six consecutive years! The RMA Band also traveled to Hawaii in December 2014 upon invitation to march in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade and perform at the USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor.
Band cadets begin the school year with the annual RMA Band Camp. Band Camp consists of two weekends full of rehearsals that culminate in a concert and marching performance. These two weekends are focused on intense marching rehearsals and music rehearsals with staff members dedicated to specific instrument groups. Band Camp staff includes professional musicians, music educators, and military musicians from all over Georgia. All band cadets are required to participate.
Riverside is a proud member of District 14 in the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA). Our middle school and high school band cadets regularly audition for the GMEA All-State Band and All-State Orchestra, and many have earned spots in the GMEA District 14 Honor Band, Hall County Honor Band, and GMEA All-State Band.
RMA Bands participate annually in GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation in addition to many band festivals.
